Annual Individual EMS System Impact Award

Purpose of this Award:

To recognize an individual who has contributed to the EMS system in the State of Connecticut as a whole. The nomination must reflect the individual’s promotion of Emergency Medical Services System as a Public Health entity This award has been established to recognize an individual for their contribution on impacting any facet of out-of-hospital care. This award provides an opportunity for the Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Public Health to recognize the talents and accomplishments of an individual’s promotion of Emergency Medical Services System as a Public Health entity. The candidate may be nominated on town, regional or state levels, and may be for participation on EMS committees, councils, organizations, or communications.

A nomination application with a description of the accomplishments of the Candidate should include some or all of the following criteria:

1.         Devoting time beyond expectation to duties regarding the promotion of an EMS System such as:

Ø      Participating in special events to promote EMS.

Ø      Improving community awareness of the EMS system.

Ø      Coordinate and/or implementing community outreach programs.

2.         Providing leadership in EMS on several levels:

Ø      Active member of   organizations, committees, or coalitions that promote or develop EMS. programs

Ø      Providing guidance, management or directorship in any EMS related issue that has the potential to affect a region, multiple towns, or the state.

3.         Being a catalyst for measurably improving the pre-hospital care system:

Ø      Improving the abilities of lay citizens in recognizing an emergency exists.

Ø      Promoting and educating the community in the CPR skills.

Ø      Shaping the future of EMS in Connecticut through Policy, Regulation, and or Guideline development.

4.         Pro-Active involvement in EMS related legislative initiatives:

Ø      Testify for the enhancement of the State EMS system at Public Hearings

Ø      Interact one on one with members of the Legislature.

Ø      Promoting the importance of EMS to the Connecticut General Assembly.
